International Humanitarian Law in Cyberspace: Quo Vadis?
Professor Michael N Schmitt
In this lecture, Professor Schmitt offered a penetrating account of how international humanitarian law applies to cyberspace during times of armed conflict, and in particular the extent to which this legal framework protects civilians from the harmful effects of cyber operations. He analysed these issues through the lens of the ICRC’s recent publication: ‘Twenty Years On: International Humanitarian Law and the Protection of Civilians Against the Effects of Cyber Operations During Armed Conflicts’.
